Getting Social

People are social by nature, and a disability makes no difference.

Being social staves off loneliness, increases wellbeing, sharpens memory and cognitive skills and creates a sense of happiness, belonging, purpose and connection.

MAP’s mission is to reduce social isolation and loneliness, our social activities are created to bring people together. Connection is key!

A group of five people stand outdoors, smiling and engaging in a bowling game. One person uses a walker for support, and another holds a ball, preparing to bowl. They appear to be enjoying a casual, fun activity in a park-like setting with trees and greenery in the background.

Festival of Connection

MAP’s vision is for people with disability to be connected with their community, the power of connection builds resilience and skills, creating strong positive relationships.

On Sunday, the 3rd of December 2023, MAP presented the Festival of Connection in the Tanunda Town Square. The aim: curate a music festival that is accessible to people with disability that creates an inclusive environment, building community connection. Four bands from South Australia entertained the 100-strong crowd throughout the afternoon.

Auslan interpreters were front and centre, interpreting the theme and sound of the music. Braille price lists, a Chill Zone, disability parking, and accessible toilets were provided, ensuring the event was inclusive.

A lively outdoor event with people sitting on chairs and bean bags, enjoying live music performed on a stage under a tent. String lights are hanging above, and the area is shaded by trees. A mix of people are seated and standing, with others walking around the grassy and paved areas. The sky is clear with scattered clouds, adding to the festive atmosphere
